Human Rights
Welcome
Local 846's Human Rights Committee meets the Last Tuesday of every month at 1:30pm.
The delegates to the 1976 IAM Grand Lodge Convention adopted a resolution which requires specific actions to be taken at all levels of our Union to ensure that all IAM members enjoy equal opportunities and freedom from (harassment) discrimination regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, age or sex. It is every employee’s right to work in an environment free from discrimination and includes the right to seek appropriate remedies for actions which may not be specifically covered by the contract or formal grievance procedures.
If you feel you have been harassed or discriminated against, the following steps should be taken when reporting your problem.
CONTACT YOUR UNION STEWARD. Discuss your problem with your Union Steward. Many problems can be eliminated in the shop or office without going to higher authorities.
CONTACT YOUR GENERAL CHAIR. The Union Representative will determine the legality of your problem; if it is covered in the contract, he/she will handle it accordingly.
CONTACT THE UNION HUMAN RIGHTS CHAIR: This contact should be used prior to contacting an outside agency. It is unlawful for an employer to discharge, discipline, harass or otherwise retaliate against any person for filing a charge.
We are all here to help you! If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us at humanrights@iamLL846.org
